Balalae Island (or Ballalae/Ballali) is part of the Shortland Islands Group in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. The flight from Honiara to Ballalae airport takes approximately 2 hour and 30 minutes via Gizo. Balalae is a key part of the country’s history with several World War II wrecks and has heavily influenced the life and history of the people of the region. Balalae Island has left with more than forty Japanese aircraft shot down by Australia, New Zealand and American marines during the war from 1942.
