Travel Security

Security measures

Due to increased security screening, check-in procedures and potential traffic delays, we recommend you allow extra time to get to the airport.

During check-in and boarding you will notice some additional security measures that include:

  • Random explosive trace detection of passengers and their carry-on baggage.
  • Laptop computers and aerosols are subject to enhanced inspection at screening points.

 Solomon Airlines advises you to:

  • Always pack your own baggage.
  • Do not carry on your person or in your checked baggage any item for another person.
  • Always carry your valuables, medication and keys in your carry-on baggage.
  • Pack all knives, sharp objects or cutting and stabbing implements in checked baggage; these must not be carried in cabin baggage or on your person.

Solomon Airlines has a strict policy of denying boarding to or off-loading any passenger that makes inappropriate comments or behaves inappropriately inflight or on the ground. Solomon Airlines will not accept any inappropriate comments as “jokes”.

Solomon Airlines will also seek to recover all costs incurred as a result of inflight incidents, including diversions, from those involved.

View the Australian Government's TravelSECURE site for questions related to security at Australian Airports.

Cabin baggage restrictions

Please note that enhanced security screening measures are in place at international airports.

Some items are classified as prohibited items, weapons and dangerous goods that cannot be carried on board an aircraft. If you have any of these items in your cabin baggage, you will need to surrender these at the screening point.

For details see this webpage.

This involves limiting the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) that can be taken through the security screening point by passengers.

  • Liquid, aerosol or gel items must be in containers of 100 millilitres (volume), 100 grams (weight) or less.
  • Containers must fit into one transparent and re-sealable plastic bag like a snap-lock sandwich bag.
  • The four sides of the bag's sealed area must add up to no more than 80 centimetres (e.g. 20x20 cm or 15x25 cm).
  • Only one bag is allowed per passenger, with exceptions for carers who may carry the bag/s for people in their care, including children.
  • Containers larger than 100 millilitres or 100 grams, even if only partially-filled, will not be allowed through the security screening point. For example, a 200 gram toothpaste tube that is half-full will not be permitted.
  • At the screening point all liquids, aerosols and gels in your carry-on baggage must be separately presented for screening.

Liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) include, but are not limited to:

  • Water and other drinks, soups, syrups, jams, stews, sauces and pastes.
  • Foods in sauces or products containing a high liquid content
  • Creams, lotions, cosmetics and oils
  • Perfumes
  • Sprays
  • Gels including hair and shower gels
  • Contents of pressurized containers including shaving foam, other foam and deodorants
  • Liquid-solid mixtures
  • Mascara, lipstick, lip gloss or lip balm
  • Lighters
  • And any item of similar consistency at room temperature

Medication and baby products

  • Prescription medicine and non-prescription medicine is permitted provided the passenger can demonstrate a bona fide need for these items.
  • Baby products to be consumed in-flight including baby milk, sterilized water, baby juice, baby food in liquid, gel or paste form and wet wipes may be carried on board.
  • All medication and baby products may be subject to additional security checks.

Flights departing to/from an International Airport Terminal

Passengers travelling on flights departing from an international airport terminal may take on board liquids, aerosols and gels purchased after the screening point, including duty free goods.

However, if your journey includes a transit or transfer to a connecting flight at another international airport, your cabin baggage may be subject to security re-screening and this will affect the purchase and carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels in your cabin baggage.
