Solomon Airlines reluctantly suspends flights to four domestic airstrips

Posted on November 10, 2023 at 09:00 AM in General News

Solomon Airlines has confIrmed that effective immediately (from 10 November), the airline will suspend all flights to four domestic airports including Balalae Island (BAS), Manaoba Airport (MHM), Mono Airport (MNY), and Bellona (BNY).

The suspensions have occurred due to an absence of windsocks at these Aerodromes, and will stay in place until further notice.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this decision may cause to the travelling public, and to the communities served by these airports,” said Acting CEO of Solomon Airlines Napoleon Padabela.

“The Solomon Airlines Safety Review Committee, after careful consideration, has suspended these services for safety reasons and taking into consideration the volatility of the weather.

“Safety is our number one priority and this is a decision based upon our commitment to the safety for our aircraft crew and passengers.

“For that,we  apologise to any of our passengers who may have experienced a change or delay to their flight, during this process,” he added.

“We are committed to working closely with SIACL and MCA to resolve this issue as swiftly as possible so that flight operations can resume promptly, once the affected airports are properly equipped.
