Posted on October 31, 2024 at 05:00 PM in General News

Today, Solomon Airlines proudly marked Pink October with a special event dedicated to raising awareness of cancer and the importance of early detection and community support.

Held at the Airline’s Henderson headquarters in Honiara, the gathering featured an informative talk by Dr. Andrew Soma and his staff member Mrs. Meltus of cancer unit at National referral hospital, as well as deeply moving testimonials from local cancer survivors. Among them was Captain Lyndah Tito, who shared her own powerful journey in the fight against cancer.

Captain Tito’s testimony provided a heartfelt perspective on resilience, inspiring attendees to prioritize their health and to lean on support networks. Her words left a lasting impact, underscoring the importance of awareness and solidarity in battling all forms of cancer.

In a further show of support, all female staff members wore pink ribbons throughout the day, symbolizing Solomon Airlines’ solidarity with those affected by cancer. This initiative not only raised awareness within the organization but also sent a message of hope and strength to the wider Solomon Islands community.

“Our Pink October event today has been a meaningful reminder of the importance of health awareness,” said Monica Utukana, Solomon Airlines’ Human Resources Manager. “Hearing directly from experts, survivors, and especially our own Captain Tito has inspired us all to continue supporting cancer awareness and to stand strong together in this cause.”

This initiative aligns with Solomon Airlines’ commitment to community and health advocacy. By joining the global #PinkOctober movement, Solomon Airlines aims to make a positive impact within the Solomon Islands, fostering a culture of health, compassion, and unity.

As the national carrier of the Solomon Islands, Solomon Airlines is dedicated to providing quality service, fostering community engagement, and supporting local initiatives. Through events like Pink October, the airline demonstrates its commitment to the well-being of the Solomon Islands and its people.
