Solomon Airlines Celebrates 62nd Anniversary with Inspiring Careers Fair for School Students

Posted on November 03, 2024 at 10:06 AM in General News

On November 1, 2024, Solomon Airlines proudly celebrated its 62nd anniversary by hosting an inspiring Careers Fair in Honiara. Students from a number of secondary schools, including St. Joseph Catholic National Secondary School, King George VI Secondary School, Betikama Adventist College, Chung Wah School, St. Nicholas Anglican College, and Tamlan School, joined the event to explore dynamic career paths in aviation, tourism, and related industries.

A key highlight for the students was hearing personal stories from senior Solomon Airlines staff, including pilots who shared their journeys from local schools to successful careers in aviation. This made the event especially relatable and inspiring, as students could see firsthand the potential pathways to a future with Solomon Airlines.

Through interactive booths, students engaged hands-on with various departments, such as Piloting, Cabin Crew, Engineering, Commercial, Human Resources, and IT. These immersive experiences offered a window into the skills, dedication, and passion each role demands, helping students imagine their futures in aviation.

Tourism Solomons emphasized the tourism sector’s ripe potential for growth and its vital role in contributing to social and economic development, encouraging students to consider careers in this promising field.

An engaging Q&A session added an interactive element, rewarding students’ curiosity and enthusiasm with exciting giveaways. The session emphasized the importance of curiosity, active learning, and a passion for knowledge—qualities essential for career success.

Representatives from key organizations, including Guadalcanal Travel Solomons, the Customs Department, and Tourism Solomons, also shared real-world insights. The Customs Department, for instance, shed light on their role in regulating imports, aligning with Solomon Airlines’ commitment to secure and responsible operations.

This event was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors: the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI), Tourism Solomons, Bluewater Limited, and Printwise Designs. Supporting partners, including Soltuna and Our Telekom, also contributed engaging giveaways, adding excitement to the Q&A session.

Solomon Airlines is committed to empowering the next generation of Solomon Islanders. By investing in youth development, we hope to inspire students to strive for excellence as they approach their year-end exams and beyond, preparing them to contribute to the growth of the nation’s aviation and tourism sectors.
