Solomon Airlines flies toy donation to Honiara for National Referral Hospital Childrens Playground

Solomon Airlines’ weekly cargo flight carried some extra special parcels today in partnership with the Solomon Islands Brisbane Community to send a shipment of toy cars to Honiara for the National Referral Hospital.

The push cars, designed for toddlers, are destined for the new circuit track at the children’s ward playground and were purchased with the proceeds of fundraising by the Solomon Islands Brisbane community.

The cute cars include a range of vehicles from lookalike Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG and Lamborghini Urus to Tikes Control Police Cars. A total of $1,180 was raised to buy the cars during an online raffle last year however, due to COVID-19, the transportation of the toy cars was delayed. 

Members of the community joined Solomon Airlines CEO Brett Gebers at the Pakfresh Handling cargo depot at Brisbane Airport to coordinate the shipping of the cargo courtesy of the national carrier.

“A big thank you to Solomon Airlines and to the Brisbane Community and SIBC Executive Committee for their combined efforts and generosity,” said Nerida Morrey, past President of SIBC.

“I am so proud to be amongst a group of community leaders who are passionate about giving back, especially to our people back home in the beautiful Solomon Islands,” she said.

Solomon Airlines CEO Brett Gebers said the airline was delighted to assist for such a worthy cause.

“We congratulate the growing Solomon Islands community in Brisbane for their ongoing efforts to maintain meaningful links with culture and community in the Solomon Islands.  This heartfelt gesture is a wonderful example of that,” he said.

Ms. Dulcie Paina is the newly appointed President of the Solomon Islands Brisbane Community, effective from this month.
